Second Pride Votes - Info Page

In Second Pride we've always considered important to have democratic votes in which we let our members participate.
We continue this concept to honor a tradition on which this organization was founded in 2007.

At that time, the membership was also in total control over every decision which were taken in meetings. This way to conduct business has, however, shown over time that it was not fair nor safe for the organization's well being. The membership mentioned above consisted mainly of users from one group and their number started small. In time the membership grew, and the fact that it was all powerful resulted in a regrettable event where an individual used this to teleport many friends over at one meeting in 2008 to suddenly change vote balance to force his own will by overpowering the majority with friend avatars.

Because we do not want votes to be about a friends teleporting contest, or about letting only the few people who do attend meetings to decide everything for others, necessary changes have been made.
The way votes were handled was modified little by little from 2008 until today by using the 2007 vote system to have these changes approved in open meetings.

Today, as to allow the committee to work faster, and based on the fact that each chair was democratically elected, the committee is the main group to vote on general issues in the open meetings.
However as to keep the tradition going, any member who would oppose a committee vote or decision is allowed to voice his opinion and bring a counter-proposal to the table and request to open a vote of the registered voters in the membership, this allows for democracy even if the committee can also work on its own and faster without members.

In addition, for some situations, such as the election of a new committee or the modification of the By-Laws, as well as other situations mentioned in the By-Laws of Second Pride, the committee cannot vote alone and must call registered members to vote in these matters.

After a few tries of using the Second Life group and scripted tools for vote, we had to acknowledge the risk for fraud using alts and the lack of participation from the group members when using the group vote tool.
Therefor it was decided to turn towards on-line tools for voting, which allow for better safety and easier participation from people despite if they can or cannot access SL and their time-zone(s).

Therefor as to know every time exactly how many voters we do have and have an easier time to contact them about a vote, it was decided to request from members to register as voters in order to vote. By using our Internet tools and having a clear list of allowed voters, it will be easier for us to provide a safe environment for your votes and to ensure the posting of better vote statistics.

Registration is open to everyone ! There are no restrictions.
Be aware that alts and double accounts are forbidden. Any member caught trying to commit fraud shall be sanctioned by a vote for exclusion and possible permanent ban from being a Second Pride member !
